Residents in Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua are grappling with the aftermath of significant flooding caused by heavy rainfall overnight. Many families, particularly those residing in low-lying areas, have had to abandon their homes and seek shelter as the floodwaters inundated their properties.

Apolosi Lewaqai, the Divisional Commissioner for Western Police, provided an update on the situation. He reported that the floodwaters are beginning to recede in Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua. While some families have relocated to evacuation centers, assistance is being coordinated for those who remain stranded. Lewaqai mentioned that efforts are underway to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected.

He expressed optimism about the recovery process, stating that most families are expected to return to their regular routines today. “We are dedicated to helping families and businesses achieve this normalcy,” Lewaqai affirmed.

This situation highlights the resilience of the Fijian community in the face of challenges, and the proactive measures being taken to support those affected are commendable. As the floodwaters recede, there is hope that families will rebuild and recover swiftly.

The focus now is on ensuring that residents can return home safely and begin the process of healing and restoration in their communities.
