Rotuma High School celebrated its inaugural medal at the Fiji Finals with David Savea earning a bronze in the intermediate boys’ discus event. Savea’s throw of 42.57 meters marked a significant achievement for both him and his school. At just 16 years old, this is Savea’s third appearance at the Fiji Finals, and he dedicated his victory to his teachers and coaches who supported him in his training.
“I want to thank my teachers, coaches, and teammates for helping me in my preparations; this medal is for them,” Savea expressed after his event. Initially uncertain about winning a medal, he eventually felt proud to represent his school on such a prestigious platform.
Current competitions at the Fiji Finals include the 100m heats, with finals scheduled to kick off later in the day. This year’s Fiji Finals has been particularly noteworthy, coinciding with the events marking the 50th anniversary of Fiji Secondary Schools athletics. The heightened atmosphere of competition has seen young athletes demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication across various schools, reminiscent of other recent achievements.
For instance, athletes from Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School have recently shined at the Suva Zone Two athletics competition, showcasing the abundance of talent in Fijian schools. The collective efforts of these young competitors highlight a bright future for athletics in Fiji, where dreams of sporting excellence continue to inspire and unite communities.
