Marist Brothers High School’s outstanding athlete, Ebenezer Saukuru, has made headlines by winning a gold medal in the intermediate boys’ long jump event at the 2025 Fiji Finals. His remarkable leap of 6.45 meters secured him the top spot in a competitive field. Ratu Apenisa Navukitu followed closely, earning a silver medal with a jump of 6.44 meters, while Aminiasi Tavailagi from Ratu Kadavulevu School took home the bronze medal with a jump of 6.41 meters.
This achievement adds to the impressive record of performance from Marist Brothers High School’s athletics program, as it previously noted other talented athletes like Lepani Bavai, who won the gold medal in the 400m senior boys’ race at a recent inter-house competition. While Bavai is managing conflicting schedules with rugby commitments and the Coca-Cola Games, Saukuru continues to focus on his athletic aspirations, with hopes of also breaking the javelin intermediate boys’ record at the Fiji Finals, aiming to surpass a long-standing record of 67.23 meters set in 2005.
The recent competitions at Marist Brothers High School and other schools in Fiji demonstrate a vibrant and competitive athletics scene, showcasing young talents who embody resilience and commitment. Athletes from various schools are preparing vigorously for the Fiji Finals, expressing dreams of securing medals for their schools, fostering a sense of hope and pride within their communities.
Amidst challenging competitions, it is clear that the dedication displayed by students like Saukuru, Bavai, and others, reflects a growing culture of excellence in Fijian athletics. Their collective efforts signal a future rich with potential, as these young athletes inspire peers to pursue their dreams and strive for greatness in sports.
