Fiji Finals and Super Rugby Clash: A Scheduling Dilemma

Spread the love

The 2025 Fiji Finals date is set to conflict once again with a Super Rugby Pacific match in Suva during May. The Fijian Drua is scheduled to host the Reds on May 3, while the Fiji Finals are traditionally held in the first week of May, coinciding with the first school term break, which begins on May 2.

Both the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) and the Fijian Drua are currently in discussions to find a resolution that accommodates both events. The Drua had released its home game schedule for the 2025 season in late September, a week before the Ministry of Education announced the school terms.

Given the possibility of rescheduling, one proposal includes moving the Fiji Finals earlier in the week. Shane Hussein, the general manager of Fijian Drua, expressed optimism about the ongoing conversations, stating that the FSSAA has various options under consideration. He noted that they are working collaboratively to create an arrangement that benefits both sporting events.

This situation mirrors a similar clash that occurred in 2023, which led to the rescheduling of the Fiji Finals from May 2-4 to April 27-29.

There is hope that a solution can be reached soon, with final decisions expected by the first week of January. This proactive approach from both parties demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that sports enthusiasts can enjoy both the Fiji Finals and the Super Rugby match.

In summary, while the scheduling conflict poses a challenge, the collaborative efforts between the Fijian Drua and the FSSAA bring a promising outlook for a resolution, ensuring both events can be enjoyable for fans.
