The Fiji Finals for 2025 are set to coincide with a Super Rugby Pacific match scheduled to take place in Suva during May, prompting discussions between the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association and the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua to find an effective resolution.
The Drua announced its home game schedule for the 2025 season on September 30, 2024, shortly after the Ministry of Education revealed this year’s school term dates on October 8. Traditionally, the Coca-Cola Games happens in the first week of May, overlapping with the school term break, which is slated for May 2 in 2025. Consequently, the final day of the Fiji Finals on May 3 will clash with the match between the Fijian Drua and the Reds at the HFC Bank Stadium.
Shane Hussein, the commercial general manager of the Fijian Drua, confirmed ongoing discussions with the Fiji Secondary School Athletics Association and Fiji Sports Council to reach a mutually agreeable solution. Various options are under consideration, including the possibility of scheduling the Fiji Finals earlier in the week. Biu Colati, the competition director for the Coca-Cola Games, expressed optimism about finalizing arrangements by early January, mentioning the opportunity for local spectators to enjoy both events, as the Drua mentioned the importance of accommodating fans.
Similar scheduling conflicts were experienced in 2023, where the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association moved the event from May 2-4 to April 27-29 due to a scheduling clash.
