The Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association Secretary, Biu Colati, has emphasized a commitment to safety and discipline in the lead-up to this year’s Fiji Finals. Scheduled for the 24th to the 26th of this month, the event is generating great excitement, with less than two and a half weeks until it begins.
Colati has made it clear that any form of misconduct, whether from athletes or supporters, will not be tolerated during the games. He stated that the association has partnered with the Fiji Police Force, the Land Transport Authority, Fiji Sports Council, and the Ministry of Health to ensure a secure environment for all attendees.
“This year, we are enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy,” Colati stated. He indicated that law enforcement will be actively monitoring the events, and any disruptive behavior will lead to serious consequences. This includes taking action against students who engage in reckless behavior, like shaking buses or waving flags from moving vehicles, a practice that has been common during past Fiji Finals.
Drivers have been reminded that they have the right to stop at the nearest police station if passengers are acting irresponsibly while in transit. These measures are aimed not only at ensuring safety but also at fostering a responsible atmosphere that allows for an enjoyable experience for both participants and spectators.
This initiative aligns with earlier efforts made during previous events, such as the Fiji Secondary Schools Deans Quarter Finals. There, police operations were heightened to ensure a safe environment amid concerns over incidents and traffic safety. The consistent focus on safety across such significant events showcases a growing awareness and commitment to protecting the youth involved in sports.
As excitement builds for the Finals, it is clear that all stakeholders are dedicated to collaborating in order to create a positive and secure environment for students and their families. This proactive approach not only highlights the importance of safety but also reflects the community’s enthusiasm for supporting young athletes and promoting sportsmanship.
