Fiji Fijiana XV Dominates in WXV3 Opener: What’s Next?

The Vodafone Fijiana XV team delivered an impressive performance against Hong Kong China, winning 38-3 in their opening match of the WXV3 tournament, setting a positive tone ahead of their next challenge against Samoa on October 12 in Dubai. Coach Mosese Rauluni reflected on the match, acknowledging a sluggish start that allowed their opponents too much possession and too many penalties. However, he noted that improvements in the second half helped secure the victory.

Rauluni expressed satisfaction with the outcome against Hong Kong China after recent setbacks, including losses to Scotland (15-59) and the Netherlands (10-12). He emphasized that the win boosts the players’ confidence as they prepare for a tough contest against Samoa, highlighting the need for strong set-pieces and improved physicality in both ball carrying and defense.

Captain Karalaini Naisewa, who scored twice during the match, praised the team’s performance and pointed out that the weather conditions in Dubai would be similar to those back home, allowing for better preparation. She acknowledged the challenge posed by Samoa and stressed the importance of enhancing their fitness levels for their next game.

Fiji’s scoring started with prop Anasimeci Korovata powering through the Hong Kong China defense for the first try, followed by a second try from Kolora Lomani. After Hong Kong China managed to score a penalty, Naisewa extended Fiji’s lead with a try from a maul. The Fijianas continued to dominate the game, with further tries from Repeka Tove and Sulita Waisega, along with additional successful conversions from Luisa Tisolo, culminating in a final score of 38-3.

In other news, the national under-18 schoolboys team achieved a victory over Australia, winning 26-14 in their first match at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, with their next match scheduled for 3 PM tomorrow.
