Fiji secured its second draw in the MSG Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, as they managed to equalize against Papua New Guinea in a 1-1 match. The team, under the guidance of coach Marika Rodu, previously drew their first encounter 1-1 against Vanuatu on Thursday.

Papua New Guinea took the lead with a goal from veteran Raymond Gunemba in the 23rd minute. However, Fiji responded in the second half with an equalizer from Sairusi Nalaubu in the 73rd minute. The goal was set up through impressive teamwork between Christopher Wasasala and Thomas Dunn. Dunn delivered a precise pass to Wasasala, who skillfully evaded the goalkeeper before laying the ball on for Nalaubu, who simply tapped it in. Nalaubu has now scored two goals in the tournament, showcasing his growing influence.

The match did face interruptions due to thunderstorms and lightning, causing a 15-minute halt. Fortunately, once conditions improved, the last six minutes, along with added time, were played to completion.

This ongoing tournament presents a great opportunity for Fiji’s squad to build cohesion and compete at a higher level. Their ability to come back from behind in both matches highlights their resilience, which could bode well for future performances. Fans can remain optimistic as the team continues to grow and improve with each match.
