Fiji’s national football team played to their second consecutive draw in the MSG Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, after coming from behind to equalize the score against Papua New Guinea, finishing the match 1-1. This follows their earlier match, where they also ended in a draw against Vanuatu.
Papua New Guinea took the lead early in the game with veteran Raymond Gunemba scoring in the 23rd minute. However, Fiji showed resilience and equalized in the 73rd minute thanks to Sairusi Nalaubu. Nalaubu’s goal was set up by an impressive play from Christopher Wasasala and Thomas Dunn; Dunn delivered an accurate pass to Wasasala, who skillfully evaded the goalkeeper before assisting Nalaubu for a simple tap-in. With this effort, Nalaubu has now scored two goals in the tournament.
The match experienced an interruption lasting 15 minutes due to thunderstorms and lightning, but once the weather cleared, the remaining moments of the match were able to be played.
Overall, the determined performance by Fiji demonstrates their fighting spirit and ability to recover in challenging situations. With two draws under their belt, they continue to build momentum in the tournament, showing potential for improvement in their upcoming matches.
