Fiji secured its second draw in the MSG Prime Ministers Cup held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, finishing with a 1-1 tie against Papua New Guinea. The team, coached by Marika Rodu, had also drawn their opening match against Vanuatu with the same scoreline just days earlier.

The match saw Papua New Guinea (PNG) take an early lead, with veteran player Raymond Gunemba scoring in the 23rd minute. However, Fiji displayed resilience and equalized in the 73rd minute thanks to Sairusi Nalaubu, who benefited from an expertly executed play involving teammates Christopher Wasasala and Thomas Dunn. Dunn made a precise pass to Wasasala, who skillfully evaded the goalkeeper and assisted Nalaubu for an easy finish.

Nalaubu now boasts two goals in the tournament, showcasing his crucial role in the team. The match experienced a brief interruption due to severe weather conditions, as thunderstorms and lightning forced a 15-minute delay, but play resumed once it was safe.

This performance reflects Fiji’s determination and adaptability, and with their ability to come back from behind, the team demonstrates a promising spirit that may lead to future successes in the tournament. With games still to play, there’s hope that Fiji can build on this momentum and achieve better results moving forward.
