There are indications that additional cases involving Cabinet ministers may be under investigation by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). Acting commissioner Lavi Rokoika made this assertion in response to inquiries about whether more ministers find themselves in the Commission’s sights, particularly in the wake of charges against former deputy prime ministers Biman Prasad and Manoa Kamikamica.
When asked if these potential cases were connected to the ongoing Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, Rokoika refrained from commenting, citing the sensitivity of the matters currently pending in the High Court. She referenced that the investigation related to Kamikamica is still active and that she cannot elaborate on other files being handled by FICAC at this time.
Rokoika emphasized the impartiality of the Commission’s investigations, stating that no individual is exempt from scrutiny based on their status. “No one is targeted and no one is protected,” she asserted, noting that the same rigorous standards apply regardless of whether the individual is an impoverished citizen or a member of Parliament. This approach underscores FICAC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations, fostering hope for an equitable justice system that addresses corruption without bias.
