Pranil Singh has assumed the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), succeeding Joel Abraham, who recently stepped down. Singh, previously serving as the General Manager of Regulations, will fulfill this position until the board appoints a permanent successor.

In announcing Singh’s appointment, Board Chairman Cecil Browne expressed gratitude towards Abraham for his remarkable leadership and significant contributions during his tenure. Browne noted that under Abraham’s guidance, the FCCC made substantial strides in consumer protection and market regulation, enhancing the overall landscape for fair and competitive business practices.

Browne stated, “We sincerely thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” highlighting Abraham’s transformative impact on the commission’s efficacy.

During this transitional period, the FCCC has reaffirmed its commitment to its core mission of protecting consumer rights and maintaining a well-regulated marketplace. The leadership change is seen as an opportunity for the FCCC to bring in new innovative ideas while building on the strong foundation established during Abraham’s tenure.

Previously, Abraham played a pivotal role in the development of initiatives such as the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), aimed at enhancing regulatory collaboration across the Pacific region. Singh’s leadership is expected to further advance FCCC’s objectives while adapting to evolving regulatory environments, positioning the commission to continue advocating for consumer rights effectively.

This leadership transition holds positive prospects for both the FCCC and the consumers of Fiji, instilling hope for ongoing improvements in regulatory practices and consumer advocacy as the organization strives to elevate its services.
