The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has launched shift-based enforcement operations at wharves across the nation, marking a significant step in consumer protection during the busy travel season. This initiative aims to tackle challenges such as overcrowding, unfair pricing, and safety concerns as passenger numbers increase.

FCCC officers will now be stationed in shifts to provide continuous monitoring at key maritime hubs, ensuring that consumer rights are upheld. The Commission has issued a stern warning to maritime operators, vessel owners, agents, and port-based businesses, stating that any obstruction of FCCC officers will be considered unlawful and will prompt immediate action.

These enhanced operations are designed to promote fair practices, ensure transparent pricing, and enforce compliance with consumer protection regulations, especially during peak times when passengers may be more vulnerable. The Commission reiterates that all wharf operators must comply with the law and fully support enforcement efforts to protect the rights, safety, and interests of Fijian travelers.

This proactive approach underscores the FCCC’s commitment to consumer rights and safety, fostering a more equitable and secure travel environment for everyone.
