Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel has issued a stern warning to district football teams, making it clear that there will be no leniency in the upcoming season. During the Fiji FA Council Meeting held recently in Suva, Patel stressed the critical need for local club matches within districts, stating that any teams failing to comply will face point deductions that could jeopardize their chances in the FMF Inter District Championship (IDC).

Patel pointed out that several districts had previously lost valuable points due to non-compliance, including at least one premier division team. While those teams were still able to qualify for the IDC in the past, he affirmed that such allowances will no longer be accepted this year.

“This time, there will be no more freebies. Commit yourself to your local league, then only you’ll be able to turn to the FMF IDC,” Patel emphasized, underscoring the importance of local league participation for the development of football in Fiji.

He further elaborated that supporting local club games is essential for fostering grassroots talent, ensuring that districts can represent themselves effectively without having to seek players from other areas. Building a strong foundation at the club level is instrumental not only in recognizing and nurturing talent but also in enhancing the overall competitive nature of Fiji’s national football scene across all levels.

In summary, Patel’s firm stance aims to encourage districts to fully engage with their local leagues, which is vital for the long-term growth and sustainability of football in Fiji. This approach not only strengthens grassroots development but also fosters a more robust national competition.
