The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has made a substantial advancement in youth soccer development by appointing Ravneel Pratap as the first Head Coach of its newly launched Elite Academy located in Labasa. Pratap, who holds an OFC B-License, brings a wealth of experience and a high level of respect within Fijian football, particularly through his successful tenure with Labasa FC. Furthermore, his role as a teacher at Labasa Sangam College enriches his contributions to the academy with an educational perspective.

In his new role, Pratap is excited to mentor young athletes, emphasizing his commitment to helping them reach their fullest potential. He perceives the development of these players as both a personal mission and a vital contribution to the overall soccer environment in Fiji.

The creation of the Elite Academy signifies a major investment by the Fiji FA towards the future of Fijian football, overseen by Sunil Kumar, Fiji FA’s Head of Talent Development, and Technical Director Timo Jankowski. The academy is currently nurturing sixteen talented players aged 14 to 16, providing them with a structured training and educational program.

This initiative echoes a wider trend in Fijian sports, particularly as similar youth academies have been established in rugby, such as those initiated by the Fijian Drua. These parallel developments underscore a collective commitment to improving the pathways for young athletes in Fiji, enhancing their prospects of competing at both national and international levels.

The concerted efforts by both the Fiji FA and the Fijian Drua to invest in youth development signal a positive outlook for sports in Fiji, fostering local talents and empowering the younger generation to pursue their athletic ambitions. These academies not only provide crucial support for aspiring athletes but also symbolize a significant advancement in the sporting landscape of the region, ensuring that the passion for sports flourishes in the years to come.

This investment in youth sports development is a testament to the belief that nurturing local talent today will lead to enhanced competitiveness for Fiji in future sporting events, providing hope and inspiration for young athletes throughout the nation.
