A hotel employee from Fiji, Sakhawat Ali, 45, encountered a frightening incident when he was injured during a robbery at his home in Lautoka. While staying with three family members at Bandila Crescent, Ali was asleep when the robbery unfolded around 3:30 AM. He woke to the alarming sound of his aunt’s cries just before a group of masked intruders entered through a window.
In an attempt to protect his family, Ali confronted one of the intruders who was armed with a knife. Unfortunately, the struggle resulted in a serious head injury for him, as the attacker struck him with a mug. He received medical attention at Lautoka Aspen Hospital following the incident.
The robbers successfully stole belongings worth approximately $3,000, including cash, jewelry, and important travel documents. Ali expressed deep concern about the safety of his home and family after this harrowing experience. The ongoing investigation by the police highlights the increasing worries about security in the area, especially with similar recent incidents, such as a daytime supermarket robbery in Suva where armed assailants threatened both staff and customers.
These alarming events underscore the importance of community vigilance and cooperation. Witnesses in the supermarket case reported valuable insights that aided in the swift arrest of three suspects, demonstrating collective efforts can yield results. As authorities work diligently to combat these safety concerns, there is optimism that measures will be strengthened, contributing to a safer environment for both residents and visitors.
Therefore, it is essential for everyone in the community to remain alert and work together to enhance security, fostering a climate of safety and reassurance for all.
