Ms. Ranamila expressed heartfelt gratitude for their perseverance as a family, highlighting the effort some siblings made in traveling from the western regions and highlands to reunite and celebrate together. “We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a home for our parents,” Mr. Ranamila remarked, indicating a commitment to family and togetherness. He added, “2024 taught us valuable lessons, and we’re determined to make the most of the time we have.”

In Labasa, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, spent New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool. “It’s a peaceful, safe place where we can enjoy each other’s company,” Ms. Maraia said, emphasizing the importance of quality time, particularly during the school holidays, to strengthen familial bonds.

Ravikash Chand, the manager of Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, noted that it is the only public pool in Labasa, offering various activities in a secure environment for families. He encouraged parents to utilize the facility to teach their children essential water safety skills.

As the New Year progresses, families in Fiji are prioritizing togetherness and personal growth, focusing on creating lasting memories and fostering stronger connections.
