As Fiji welcomes the year 2025, families across the nation are taking the opportunity to reflect on the past year while embracing new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared the joy of her family’s New Year celebrations, which highlighted a fresh start in the aftermath of the challenges faced in 2024.

Ms. Ranamila conveyed her gratitude for overcoming family obstacles, with several siblings traveling from different regions to come together for the celebration. “We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a family home for our parents,” Mr. Ranamila added. He further remarked on the valuable lessons learned in 2024 and expressed their commitment to making the most of their time together. The family chose the picturesque Suva Picnic spot to enjoy a day of bonding away from their regular routines.

In Labasa, Ana Maraia, a 35-year-old resident of Nadogo, Macuata, spent New Year’s Day at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool with her children. “It’s a peaceful, safe place where we can enjoy each other’s company,” Ms. Maraia highlighted, stressing the significance of quality time with her kids during the school holidays to strengthen their relationships.

Ravikash Chand, the manager of the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, emphasized the facility’s unique position as Labasa’s only public pool, offering a variety of activities within a safe environment for families. He encouraged parents to take advantage of the facility to teach their children essential water safety skills.

As the New Year begins, families in Fiji are committed to prioritizing togetherness and growth, focusing on creating lasting memories, and strengthening the bonds that bring them closer together.

This article beautifully captures the spirit of family and resilience in Fiji. It highlights not only the importance of togetherness during festive seasons but also the lessons learned through hardships. With a focus on building family homes and skills, the future appears bright for these communities as they navigate their paths forward together.
