As Fiji welcomes 2025, families are reflecting on the past year and looking forward to new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila celebrated the New Year with her family, appreciating the fresh start that comes despite the challenges faced in 2024. Ms. Ranamila expressed her gratitude for overcoming obstacles together, as some siblings traveled from distant areas to reunite for the festivities.

“We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a family home for our parents,” shared Mr. Ranamila. He also noted that the past year taught them valuable lessons, and they are dedicated to making the most of their time as a family.

The Ranamila family chose the Suva Picnic spot to bond, enjoying a day away from their usual routines. They celebrated with a special lovo lunch, which included beloved family members, as shown in a photo featuring generations coming together.

In Labasa, Ana Maraia, a 35-year-old from Nadogo, Macuata, spent her New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool. She highlighted the significance of quality time with her children, especially during the school holidays, to nurture family bonds.

Ravikash Chand, manager of the pool, emphasized the facility’s role as the only public pool in Labasa, promoting it as a safe environment for families to enjoy various activities and learn water safety skills.

As the New Year unfolds, families in Fiji are prioritizing togetherness and growth, focusing on creating lasting memories and strengthening their relationships. The spirit of unity and hope for a brighter future resonates throughout the country, encouraging families to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.

This reflection on family values encapsulates the message of hope and resilience, demonstrating how communities can come together to support one another during challenging times.
