As Fiji welcomes 2025, families across the nation took the opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to new beginnings.

In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared her family’s heartwarming New Year celebration, symbolizing a fresh start despite the hardships encountered in 2024. Ms. Ranamila expressed deep gratitude for the strength they found in overcoming challenges together. Many family members traveled from different regions, including the west and the highlands, to join in the festivities.

“We’re excited for the new year and are focusing on building a family home for our parents,” noted Mr. Ranamila. He emphasized that 2024 provided valuable lessons, and they are determined to cherish the time they have together.

The family chose the Suva Picnic spot as the perfect venue to bond and step away from their daily routines, allowing them to enjoy a special day together.

In another part of the country, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, spent New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool in Labasa. She described it as a “peaceful, safe place” to spend quality time with her kids, especially during the school holidays when nurturing relationships is key.

Ravikash Chand, the manager of the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, highlighted its significance as the only public pool in Labasa. He encouraged parents to take advantage of the facility, not just for recreation but also as an opportunity to teach children vital water safety skills.

As the New Year unfolds, it is evident that families in Fiji are focused on togetherness, growth, and the creation of lasting memories. This year’s celebrations serve as a reminder of the importance of unity and the love that binds families together.

In light of the challenges faced in 2024, the optimism and commitment to personal and familial growth showcased by families across Fiji is truly inspiring, promising a bright outlook for the year ahead.
