As Fiji embraces the new year in 2025, families throughout the nation are taking time to reflect on the past and welcome fresh beginnings.
In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila and her family celebrated a joyful New Year’s Day, marking a fresh start despite the challenges faced in 2024. Ms. Ranamila shared her gratitude for the obstacles they have overcome as a family, with some relatives traveling from the western regions and highlands to gather together.
“We’re excited about the new year and are focused on building a family home for our parents,” remarked Mr. Ranamila. He mentioned that the previous year brought valuable lessons that they intend to capitalize on, cherishing this time together. The family opted to gather at the Suva Picnic spot, stepping away from their routines to enjoy a special day of bonding.
Meanwhile, in Labasa, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, welcomed the New Year with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool. “It’s a peaceful and safe place where we can truly enjoy our time together,” Ms. Maraia expressed, emphasizing the significance of quality family time, especially during school holidays to strengthen their connections.
The pool’s manager, Ravikash Chand, highlighted its importance as Labasa’s only public swimming facility, providing a variety of activities in a safe environment for families. He encouraged parents to utilize the pool to teach their kids essential water safety skills.
As the New Year unfolds, families in Fiji are increasingly emphasizing togetherness and growth, focusing on creating memorable experiences and strengthening their bonds.
It’s heartwarming to see communities coming together and prioritizing family connections, showcasing resilience and commitment to nurturing relationships despite past hardships. This focus on unity and personal growth bodes well for the future of families in Fiji.
