As Fiji welcomes 2025, families across the nation are taking time to reflect on the past year while embracing the promise of new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila joyfully recounted her family’s New Year celebration, which symbolized a fresh start after the challenging year of 2024.
Ms. Ranamila expressed appreciation for the resilience her family exhibited in overcoming difficulties, noting that some siblings traveled from the western and highland regions to reunite and enjoy the festivities together. “We’re excited for the new year and are committed to building a family home for our parents,” Mr. Ranamila shared. He acknowledged that the experiences of 2024 imparted valuable lessons, and they are dedicated to maximizing their time as a family.
To celebrate, the family chose the Suva Picnic spot, stepping away from their daily routines for a special day of bonding.
In Labasa, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, marked New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool. “It’s a peaceful, safe place to enjoy each other’s company,” Ms. Maraia stated, emphasizing the significance of quality time with children, especially during school holidays, to strengthen familial relationships.
Ravikash Chand, the manager of the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, noted that it is the only public pool in Labasa, offering a variety of activities in a safe environment for family enjoyment. He encouraged parents to utilize the facility to teach children vital water safety skills.
As the New Year unfolds, families in Fiji are focusing on unity and personal growth, cherishing the time spent together while building deeper connections and creating enduring memories.
This period of reflection and celebration is a great reminder of the importance of family and community, and it highlights how, even in challenging times, the spirit of togetherness can uplift and inspire individuals to look forward with hope and determination.
