As Fiji welcomes 2025, families across the nation have taken the opportunity to reflect on the past year and embrace new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared her family’s joyful celebrations for the New Year, which symbolized a fresh start despite the obstacles faced in 2024.

Ms. Ranamila expressed her thankfulness for overcoming challenges together as a family, noting that some siblings traveled from the west and highlands to reunite for the occasion. “We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a family home for our parents,” she declared. “2024 taught us valuable lessons, and we’re committed to making the most of the time we have.”

The family selected the Suva Picnic spot as a venue to bond outside their usual routines, allowing them to enjoy a special day together.

In Labasa, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo, Macuata, celebrated New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool. “It’s a peaceful, safe place where we can enjoy each other’s company,” she remarked. The importance of spending quality time with children, particularly during school holidays, was emphasized to strengthen family relationships.

Ravikash Chand, the pool manager, highlighted that it is the only public pool in Labasa, providing a variety of activities in a family-friendly environment. He encouraged parents to take advantage of the facility to teach their children vital water safety skills.
