As Fiji welcomes 2025, families are taking the opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to new beginnings. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared the joy of her family’s New Year celebration, which symbolizes a fresh start amid the challenges faced in 2024.

Ranamila expressed her family’s gratitude for overcoming obstacles together, noting that some siblings traveled from distant regions to reconnect and celebrate. “We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a family home for our parents,” Mr. Ranamila commented, emphasizing the lessons learned from the previous year and their commitment to cherishing their time together. The family chose the Suva Picnic spot to bond away from their daily routines and enjoy a meaningful day.

In a similar spirit, Ana Maraia, 35, from Nadogo in Macuata, celebrated New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool in Labasa. Describing the venue as a “peaceful, safe place,” Maraia highlighted the importance of spending quality time with her children, particularly during the school holidays, to strengthen familial relationships.

Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool’s manager, Ravikash Chand, pointed out that it’s the only public pool in Labasa, equipped with various activities and a secure environment for families. He encouraged parents to utilize the facility to teach their children essential water safety skills.

As the New Year begins, Fijian families are demonstrating a strong focus on togetherness and growth, prioritizing the creation of lasting memories and the strengthening of bonds. With resilience and shared aspirations, the outlook for 2025 is hopeful, inspiring Fijians to embrace their family values and make the most of the opportunities ahead.
