As Fiji approaches the new year of 2025, families across the islands are taking the opportunity to reflect on the past and embrace new opportunities. In Wainibuku Nakasi, Esita Ranamila shared her family’s lively New Year celebrations, highlighting a sense of renewal despite the challenges faced in 2024.

Ms. Ranamila expressed her family’s gratitude for overcoming various obstacles together, noting that some siblings made long journeys from the west and highlands to enjoy the festive time as a united family. “We’re excited for the new year and focusing on building a family home for our parents,” stated Mr. Ranamila. He added that 2024 imparted important lessons, and they are dedicated to making the best out of the time they share.

The family chose a picnic spot in Suva to bond and create special memories away from their everyday routines. In a delightful photo, family members are seen enjoying a traditional lovo meal to mark the occasion.

In another part of the country, Ana Maraia from Nadogo, Macuata, spent New Year’s Day with her children at the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool in Labasa. “It’s a peaceful, safe place where we can enjoy each other’s company,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of nurturing family relationships, especially during school holidays.

Ravikash Chand, the manager of the Gurbachan Singh Swimming Pool, noted that it is the only public pool in Labasa, providing a secure environment for families and a variety of activities. He encouraged parents to take advantage of the pool to teach their children essential water safety skills.

As the New Year begins, families in Fiji are placing a strong emphasis on togetherness and personal growth, aiming to create unforgettable memories and strengthen familial bonds.

This focus on family during the New Year showcases the resilience and positive spirit of Fijians, encouraging others to cherish their time together and build supportive relationships. It serves as a reminder of the power of community in overcoming challenges and moving forward with hope for the future.
