Tropical Cyclone Rae has moved out of Fiji waters, but its effects are lingering, particularly in the Southern Lau Group, where strong to gale-force winds continue. The Fiji Meteorological Office has issued a gale warning for areas including Vatoa, Ono-i-Lau, Moce, Komo, Namuka-i-Lau, Kabara, Fulaga, and Ogea, advising residents to remain alert. Furthermore, a strong wind warning is in place for Yasawa, the Northern and Central Lau Group, Kadavu, and other neighboring islands.

Although the strong wind warning for the northeastern parts of Viti Levu, Mamanuca, and eastern sections of Vanua Levu has been lifted, the weather remains serious, with heavy rainfall impacting the entire Fiji group. A flash flood warning is currently active for small streams and low-lying areas prone to flooding, urging communities to take precautions.

Adding to the challenges, Tropical Depression 10F is developing east of Vanuatu and is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 tropical cyclone. While it is anticipated to track southeast away from Fiji, it still poses a risk of bringing intensified weather to the region.

In light of these ongoing weather conditions, communities are encouraged to prepare adequately. There is a long-standing tradition in Fiji of collective action and preparedness which has proven effective in minimizing the impact of storms. Local leaders emphasize the importance of staying informed, securing properties, and being ready with emergency supplies as more rain and strong winds are anticipated.

The resilience of the Fijian people shines through in times of adversity, showcasing their spirit of solidarity and cooperation. History has shown that by working together, residents can successfully navigate the challenges posed by tropical weather systems, drawing on their shared strength and unity to face whatever lies ahead.
