The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has reported a significant reduction in raw water inflow due to heavy rainfall affecting the water sources and pump stations. Currently, production levels at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant are down to 85% of normal capacity, which has resulted in lower production and dropping reservoir levels in various areas.

As a consequence of these operational challenges, residents in elevated areas connected to the Tamavua system can expect low water pressure starting this afternoon. The affected locations include neighborhoods such as Namadi Heights, Ratu Sukuna Road, and parts of Lami, among others.

In order to assist residents impacted by the situation, WAF has activated water carting services to ensure that essential water needs are met. They are actively working to restore full water supply and improve the overall situation.

This predicament comes against a backdrop of recent weather challenges linked to Tropical Cyclone Rae, which had previously caused elevated turbidity levels and necessitated a reduction in water inflow to maintain water quality standards. WAF is taking proactive measures, including the deployment of additional water carting trucks to aid the most affected communities.

Despite these difficulties, WAF remains committed to resolving the issues and restoring reliable water supply services. They are urging residents to remain prepared and conserve water during this challenging period, emphasizing that community cooperation is key.

There is a hopeful outlook as the authorities continue to manage the situation, with efforts focused on stabilizing water production and replenishing reservoir levels in the near future.
