A flash flood warning is currently in effect for low-lying areas and small streams on the islands of Vanua Levu and specific regions of Viti Levu, including Suva, Nausori, Naitasiri province, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, and Lautoka. The Nadi weather office reports that a slow-moving trough of low pressure, accompanied by a shallow low pressure system located just east of Kadavu, is responsible for the adverse weather conditions.
As a result, cloud cover and rainfall are expected to impact the Central, Eastern, and Northern parts of Fiji. Additionally, a heavy rain warning has been issued for the Central and Northern divisions, as well as the Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the weather system continues to develop. Emergency services are on alert, and community members are encouraged to prepare for potential flooding.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring weather updates and being ready to respond to emergencies. With proper precautions, communities can manage the risks associated with heavy rain and flooding effectively.
