The Divisional Police Commander North, SSP Kemueli Baledrokadroka, has dispatched a team to the Vunicuicui Shiv Mandir temple in Labasa to investigate allegations of sacrilege. This action comes following an urgent appeal from Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, who emphasized the seriousness of the desecration of sacred texts, particularly the Holy Ramayan. Prasad condemned such acts, declaring them inexcusable and intolerable, and expressed concerns about the potential for social and moral decay stemming from religious intolerance.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of sacrilege across Fiji. Recently, locations of worship have come under attack, including appropriate measures taken in response to previous incidents, such as a break-in at the Jai Hind Prahaat Ramayan Faag Mandali temple in Rakiraki.
