Fiji Faces Rain and Thunderstorms: What to Expect?

A trough of low pressure is bringing cloud and rain to the northern and eastern regions of Fiji. This information was provided in a weather bulletin from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi this morning.

Currently, a moist east to southeast wind flow is affecting the entire Fiji group. The weather forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tonight predicts occasional rain in the Northern division, Taveuni, and surrounding smaller islands, as well as in the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Occasional showers are also anticipated in areas including Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu North, Serua, Namosi, Naitasiri, and the interior regions of Ra and Rakiraki. Other areas can expect cloudy periods with possible afternoon or evening showers, along with thunderstorms that could bring heavy rainfall.

There is a risk of localized heavy falls, which might result in flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the east to southeast, with seas becoming moderate to rough.
