A tropical disturbance named TD09F is on course to enter Fiji’s waters from the northeast of Vanua Levu and is projected to develop into a Tropical Depression by tomorrow. According to the Fiji Meteorological Services, TD09F is currently situated to the far northeast of Fiji, moving southward and anticipated to gradually intensify. While there’s a low to moderate likelihood of it becoming a Tropical Cyclone, it is essential for residents to remain vigilant.

A strong wind warning is in place for the Northern Division and northeastern parts of Viti Levu, particularly affecting regions from Tailevu North to Rakiraki, along with the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu, including adjacent smaller islands. Heavy rain alerts have been issued across the entire Northern Division and Yasawa Group, extending to the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and parts of the eastern half of Viti Levu, notably in Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, and Navua.

As the disturbance develops, strong winds are expected, with speeds up to 50 km/h and gusts that may reach 65 km/h in impacted areas. Conditions at sea are predicted to deteriorate, and forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall and thunderstorms could affect various locations, primarily in the Northern Division, Yasawa, and Lomaiviti groups.

This situation echoes previous disturbances like TD01F, which similarly resulted in heavy rainfall and strong winds, highlighting the importance of community preparedness and awareness during such weather events. Solidarity among residents is crucial as they are encouraged to stay informed, take necessary precautions, and support one another through the forthcoming weather changes.

While these weather systems present challenges, there is hope that strong community preparedness will help lessen the impacts, encouraging unity and resilience among the people of Fiji in facing potential hardships ahead.
