Significant rainfall has been reported across various regions of Fiji in the last 24 hours, with the Fiji Meteorological Service noting over 100 millimeters recorded in several areas. The rainfall totals, measured from 3 AM December 14 to 3 PM December 15, show that Rakiraki’s Penang had the highest accumulation at 132.5 millimeters. Other substantial totals include Nadarivatu with 111.0 millimeters, and Dobuilevu, also in Rakiraki, recording 101.0 millimeters.
Further rainfall measurements reveal Rarawai received 98.5 millimeters, Vunisea saw 99.5 millimeters, and Nagado recorded 97.5 millimeters. The Fiji Met Service attributes this wet weather to a trough of low pressure that is currently affecting the entire Fiji Group.
Looking ahead, forecasts predict continued rain, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours and occasional thunderstorms. In light of these conditions, authorities are urging the public to exercise caution, particularly those residing in flood-prone regions. The ongoing rainfall serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance during adverse weather conditions, promoting community safety and preparedness.
