A significant rain warning remains in effect across the entirety of Fiji as the Fiji Meteorological Service reports an active trough of low pressure influencing the northeastern regions of the nation. This weather pattern is expected to linger through Monday.
The meteorological agency also notes that another trough of low pressure is anticipated to approach Fiji in the coming days. Rainfall intensity is expected to increase later tonight particularly over Viti Levu, with potential for localized heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. These conditions could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone regions.
Regions affected by the heavy rain warning include the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, the Northern Division, Ra-Rakiraki, parts of Northern Ba-Ra, the interiors of Ra, Naitasiri, and Serua-Namosi, as well as the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu areas and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
As the nation navigates these weather challenges, it’s crucial for residents to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to stay safe during these intense weather conditions. Community solidarity can be a source of strength during such times, reminding us of the importance of looking out for one another.
