A trough of low pressure has settled over the Fiji Group, bringing clouds and heavy showers that are slowly moving eastward, as reported by the Fiji Meteorological Service on Friday. Rain is anticipated to persist across the region throughout the day, particularly affecting Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu, along with areas including Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, the interior of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group.
In other parts of the country, cloudy conditions with occasional showers are expected, alongside the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. This localized heavy precipitation could potentially result in flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast suggests continued cloudy periods with intermittent showers over the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu area, as well as inland regions and the Southern Bua and Cakaudrove areas. In contrast, other areas are expected to remain mostly fine, with only isolated showers anticipated in the afternoons or evenings.
While the weather may pose challenges, it also offers opportunities for farmers and those in agriculture to benefit from the much-needed rainfall, which can help replenish water supplies and contribute to healthy crop yields. It’s a reminder of the delicate balance between nature’s challenges and the positive impacts it can provide.
