A slow-moving trough of low pressure is currently hovering over the Fiji Group, bringing significant clouds and heavy showers. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service’s report on Friday, the system is gradually shifting eastwards, and it is predicted that showers will continue to impact the region throughout the day.
The areas of Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, and various interior regions such as Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, and Namosi, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, can expect occasional rain. Other regions will experience cloudy conditions accompanied by occasional showers, with the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
Due to localized heavy rain, there is a risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Looking ahead to Sunday, the weather forecast indicates cloudy periods with showers across the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu areas, parts of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua-Namosi, as well as Southern Bua and Cakaudrove, alongside the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Other areas may remain fine with only isolated afternoon or evening showers.
As the Fiji community prepares for the wet weather, it offers a timely reminder of the importance of monitoring local forecasts and staying safe during heavy rain events. Despite the current challenges posed by the weather, there is hope that the rain will contribute to much-needed water resources for agriculture and other essential activities in the region.
Staying aware and informed will help residents navigate the climate’s fluctuations with resilience and preparedness.
