A topical disturbance known as TD 01F is currently affecting the Fiji Group, with forecasts indicating a continuation of heavy rainfall until tomorrow. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that TD 01F is situated about 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi as of midday today. The system is moving southeast at a speed of approximately 20 kilometers per hour.

In light of these conditions, a heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji group. Additionally, a strong wind warning is in effect for coastal regions in the western and northern areas of Viti Levu, including areas from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, as well as the interior regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa, along with the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and several nearby smaller islands, including the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Flood alerts remain active for areas prone to flooding that are adjacent to and downstream of major rivers throughout Fiji. Furthermore, a flash flood warning is in effect for low-lying regions and small streams in Vanua Levu and the western interior of Viti Levu. As TD 01F approaches the country, residents can expect periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms, compounded by strong northwest winds expected to persist until the system moves away tomorrow.

Local areas that are already saturated with rain could face flash flooding due to localized heavy rainfall and rising river levels anticipated with the persistence of TD 01F.

Overall, while the current weather conditions pose challenges, they also provide an opportunity for communities to come together and support one another during this time. Effective preparedness measures can help mitigate impacts, fostering resilience in the face of unpredictable weather events.
