A Topical Disturbance (TD 01F) is currently affecting the Fiji Group, bringing a heightened risk of heavy rainfall through tomorrow. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that TD 01F is situated approximately 240 km west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 km west-northwest of Nadi as of noon today, continuing its southeast movement at a pace of around 20 km/h.

A heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji region, alongside a strong wind advisory for the coastal areas of the western and northern sections of Viti Levu, including locations from Sigatoka to Nadi and extending through Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, and several more areas. Additionally, warnings include the interior regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, Vatulele, Kadavu, and regions of Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and smaller adjacent islands, plus the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

A flood alert is in effect for areas prone to flooding adjacent to major rivers, alongside a flash flood warning for low-lying regions and smaller streams, particularly in Vanua Levu and the interior and western portions of Viti Levu. As TD 01F approaches, heavy rainfall with intermittent thunderstorms is expected to impact numerous areas. Strong northwest winds are also likely as the system closes in, before moving away from Fiji in the coming days.

With already saturated ground conditions, localized heavy precipitation could exacerbate flash flooding risks in vulnerable areas near major rivers and streams. River levels are anticipated to rise, which underlines the need for vigilance in flood-prone regions.

In summary, TD 01F poses impacts of heavy rainfall and potential flooding across Fiji, urging residents and authorities to stay informed and prepared for any emergencies that may arise. It is a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety advisories during adverse weather conditions. The community’s resilience will be crucial as they navigate through these challenges, and the forecast does present an opportunity for the country to come together in support of one another.
