Fiji Faces Heavy Rain: What to Expect?

Spread the love

Fiji is currently under a heavy rain warning as an active trough of low pressure continues to affect the region. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that this trough, along with associated clouds and rain, is situated over the northeastern areas of the country. Additionally, Tropical Disturbance [01F] is located approximately 450 kilometers to the west-northwest of Yasawa-i-rara and is moving southeast at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

Residents in coastal areas such as Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the nearby smaller islands, the Northern Lau group, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, are advised to prepare for winds shifting from the northwest to southeast. Wind speeds are expected to average between 35 to 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially reaching up to 65 kilometers per hour beginning later tonight.

From tonight, heavy rain is anticipated across several areas including the western half and interior regions of Viti Levu, which will also experience thunderstorms. Occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected in the rest of Fiji but are expected to increase in frequency and intensity.

Despite the potential for severe weather, it’s important to remain prepared and informed. Hopefully, the much-needed rain will bring relief to dry areas and support local agriculture once the weather clears.

In light of these developments, residents are encouraged to stay tuned to weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of their property.
