A heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji group due to an active trough of low pressure. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, this trough, along with associated clouds and rain, is currently stationary over the northeastern region of the country. Additionally, a Tropical Disturbance identified as [01F] is located approximately 450 kilometers West-Northwest of Yasawa-i-rara and is moving southeast at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

Residents in coastal areas such as Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Northern Lau group, Yasawa, and Mamanuca, as well as the western half and interior of Viti Levu—including Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki—should prepare for northwest to southeast winds with average speeds ranging from 35 to 50 kilometers per hour, and gusts potentially reaching 65 kilometers per hour starting tonight.

The forecast indicates occasional to frequent heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the western half and interior of Viti Levu, where rainfall is expected to intensify later today. Other areas of Fiji can also anticipate occasional showers and thunderstorms, with conditions worsening tonight as showers increase to rain.

It’s crucial for residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas, while being prepared for potential disruptions.

In these challenging weather conditions, communities often come together, reinforcing the strength and resilience of the Fijian spirit. Residents should stay informed and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

Overall, while the weather poses challenges, it also reminds us of the importance of community preparedness and collective action in the face of natural events.
