A heavy rain warning is currently in effect across the entire Fiji group. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, an active trough of low pressure, accompanied by clouds and rain, remains stationary over the northeastern regions of Fiji and is expected to influence the weather patterns until Monday.
Additionally, another trough of low pressure is predicted to approach the region starting tomorrow. As a result, rainfall is expected to intensify later tonight, particularly in Viti Levu. Localized heavy rainfall, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms, could lead to flash flooding in vulnerable low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The regions affected by the heavy rain warning include the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Northern Division, Ra-Rakiraki, Northern Ba-Ra, interior Ra, Naitasiri, Serua-Namosi, interior Ba, interior Nadroga/Navosa, and the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu areas, along with Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
In light of the impending heavy rain, residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. While heavy rain can pose risks, it also replenishes water sources crucial for farming and the environment, offering a silver lining to the situation.
Preparation and vigilance are key in managing the impacts of such weather phenomena, and the community’s resilience will play an essential role in navigating through this challenging weather event.
