Fiji Faces Heavy Rain Warning as Tropical Disturbance Lurks

Spread the love

A heavy rain warning has been issued for the western half and interior of Viti Levu, the Northern Lau Group, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as the Northern Division of Fiji. This alert comes as a result of an active trough of low pressure, which is generating clouds and rain that are slowly moving over the northeastern regions of the country.

Additionally, significant attention is placed on tropical disturbance system 01F, located approximately 450 kilometers west-northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and currently moving southeast at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the likelihood of this disturbance developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours is assessed as very low to low.

As the trough of low pressure continues to affect the weather, heavy rainfall is expected to commence later today for the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, the Northern Division, the Northern Lau Group, as well as the western half and interior of Viti Levu.

While heavy rains can pose challenges, they also serve to replenish water supplies and support local ecosystems, reminding us of the essential balance in nature. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this weather event.
