A heavy rain warning has been issued for the western half and interior regions of Viti Levu, the Northern Lau Group, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands, as well as the Northern Division of Fiji. This alert is attributed to an active trough of low pressure that is currently bringing slow-moving clouds and rainfall over the northeastern areas of the country.

Attention is also drawn to tropical disturbance system 01F, located approximately 450 kilometers West-Northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara, which is progressing southeastward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. The Fiji Meteorological Service has assessed the likelihood of this system developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours as low.

As a result of the prevailing trough of low pressure, heavy rainfall is expected to begin later today, particularly impacting the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, the Northern Division, the Northern Lau Group, as well as the western half and interior of Viti Levu.

In light of these developments, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared for potential weather-related impacts. While the situation may seem concerning, early warnings and monitoring by meteorological services can help mitigate risks and ensure safety. Staying informed about weather updates and following any safety advisories will contribute to the community’s resilience in facing these natural occurrences.
