Fiji Faces Heavy Rain Warning Amid Tropical Disturbance Concerns

Spread the love

A heavy rain warning has been issued once again for the western region and interior of Viti Levu, the Northern Lau Group, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as the Northern Division of Fiji. This warning is attributed to an active trough of low pressure that is causing persistent clouds and rainfall over the northeastern areas of the country.

In addition to the immediate heavy rainfall concerns, meteorologists are also keeping an eye on a tropical disturbance, designated as system 01F, located approximately 450 km West-Northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and currently moving southeast at a speed of 10 km/h. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, while this system is being monitored, the likelihood of it developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours remains low.

As a result of the trough of low pressure, residents of Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, the Northern Division, Northern Lau Group, and the western and interior areas of Viti Levu can expect heavy rainfall to start later today.

This developing situation highlights the importance of staying informed and prepared for potential weather hazards. Although the threat of a tropical cyclone seems minimal at this time, it serves as a reminder for communities in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and cautious during adverse weather conditions.

Summary: A heavy rain warning is back in effect for several regions in Fiji, caused by an active low-pressure system, and while a tropical disturbance is being monitored, the likelihood of cyclone development is low. Residents are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall starting later today.
