Fiji Faces Heavy Rain as Flood Risks Rise

Spread the love

The Fiji Meteorological Services has released a special weather bulletin alerting residents about anticipated heavy rain in the Central and Eastern divisions, as well as Southern Bua and Cakaudrove province, due to a slow-moving trough of low pressure over the region.

Rainfall and associated cloudy conditions are forecasted to persist until Thursday. In addition, a shallow Tropical Disturbance (TDO3F) is currently moving southeast, away from Fiji.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has reported instances of flash flooding in certain areas of the Central Division and advises the public to refrain from crossing or swimming in flooded regions where water levels exceed knee height. This weather pattern could lead to significant traffic disruptions, so motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously.

For real-time updates on road conditions, residents should consult the Fiji Roads Authority’s Facebook page or Viber community. The NDRMO emphasizes the importance of staying informed about the weather by utilizing FMS, the official source for weather information in Fiji, and encourages people to check their website or social media for advisories.

Both the NDRMO and FMS are committed to monitoring the weather closely and will continue to issue updates as the situation evolves.

This warning serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and vigilance during adverse weather conditions. By staying informed and taking precautionary measures, the community can navigate these challenges more safely.
