Fiji Faces Heavy Rain: Are You Prepared?

The Fiji Meteorological Services has released a special weather bulletin alerting residents in the Central and Eastern divisions, along with Southern Bua and Cakaudrove province, to expect heavy rain due to a slow-moving trough of low pressure impacting the region. This weather condition is projected to persist until Thursday.

Additionally, a shallow Tropical Disturbance (TDO3F) is tracking southeast away from Fiji. In light of these weather events, the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has reported instances of flash flooding in certain areas of the Central Division. They strongly advise the public to refrain from crossing or swimming in areas where water levels are above knee height due to safety concerns.

The heavy rainfall may lead to disruptions in traffic, prompting motorists to exercise caution when traveling. To stay updated on road conditions, individuals are encouraged to check the Fiji Roads Authority’s Facebook page or Viber community.

The NDRMO stresses the importance of keeping informed about the evolving weather situation through the Fiji Meteorological Services—recognized as the official source for weather-related information in the country. They recommend visiting the FMS website or their social media platforms for the latest advisories.

As the NDRMO and FMS continue to monitor this weather event, the community can take comfort in knowing that both organizations are committed to ensuring public safety through timely updates and recommendations.

In summary, residents are urged to remain vigilant, heed warnings and advisories, and often check for updates during this challenging weather period. The proactive measures and communication from authorities aim to keep the public safe and informed.
