A severe weather alert is currently in effect for the Fiji group as an active low-pressure trough continues to linger southwest of the islands. The Nadi weather office has reported that a north-westerly wind flow is expected to bring rainy conditions starting today and lasting for several days.

As a result of this weather pattern, intermittent showers are anticipated across various regions, including the Macuata province, Northern Bua, Yasawa, Mamanuca groups, and the western part of Viti Levu, extending from Nadi to Rakiraki. The forecast indicates that these showers will escalate into more persistent rain.

The weather office also noted the likelihood of cloudy conditions with more frequent showers affecting the Lau and Lomaiviti groups later in the week. Concerns have been raised about potential flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, informal settlements, and small streams, which could disrupt traffic and daily activities.

In light of this, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for possible adverse weather effects. While rain is often necessary for replenishing water supplies and supporting agriculture, the community’s safety and preparedness are vital during heavy rainfall events.

Summary: Fiji is under a weather alert due to an active low-pressure trough causing rainy conditions across several regions for the next few days, with potential flooding expected. Residents should stay prepared and cautious during this period.
