A heavy rain warning has been issued for the Fiji group, according to the Nadi weather office. A trough of low pressure is currently lingering southwest of Fiji, near Kadavu, causing persistent rain and showers across the nation.

The Fiji Meteorological Service anticipates that the heavy rainfall will begin to clear later today, transitioning from occasional heavy rain and potential thunderstorms to lighter showers. Despite the expectation of easing conditions, a flash flood warning is still in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas. Specifically, areas at risk include parts of Vanua Levu, such as Labasa, Qawa, Wainikoro, Wailevu District, and Dreketi, as well as regions on Viti Levu including Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Naitasiri Province, Tailevu, Rakiraki, and Tavua.

As the weather gradually improves, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepare for possible localized flooding. The situation highlights the importance of awareness in potentially dangerous weather conditions, as the effects of heavy rainfall can be unpredictable. While the rain poses challenges, the forecast for clearing skies later today serves as a hopeful sign for the communities affected.

In summary, while heavy rain and flash floods pose serious risks, the anticipated easing of conditions provides some relief for the affected areas in Fiji.
