Flood warnings are currently in effect for areas prone to flooding along the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi rivers. As of 7:00 AM, water levels at the Ba FSC station are measured at 2.89 meters, which is below the warning threshold and is on a downward trend. Similarly, the water level at the Nakauvadra town center stands at 2.0 meters, also below the warning level and decreasing. The town bridge station in Nadi reports a water level of 2.0 meters, which is below the warning level as well.
Despite these encouraging figures, a heavy rain warning remains in place for the entirety of Fiji. The weather office explains that an active trough of low pressure, along with associated cloud cover and rain, continues to impact the region. Additionally, another trough of low pressure is approaching from the West, bringing the potential for more rainfall until Sunday. The forecast indicates that periods of rain, some heavy, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, will persist throughout the country.
It’s important for residents in affected areas to stay alert and prepare for possible changes in weather conditions. While the current water levels are reassuring, the presence of heavy rain could alter the situation quickly.
In summary, while flood levels are currently manageable, the threat of heavy rain and potential thunderstorms necessitates preparedness among residents in flood-prone areas. The ongoing weather impacts remind us of the importance of community resilience and readiness in the face of nature’s unpredictability.
