Heavy rainfall in Fiji’s Northern Division has resulted in significant flooding, leading to multiple road closures and warnings for motorists to exercise caution. Key affected routes include the Soasoa Flat on Wainikoro Road and various low-level crossings such as those on Tabia Road, Zailav Road, Buavou Road in Seaqaqa, Naqumu Road, Lalakoro Road, and Namuavoivoi Road. Access remains restricted at these points, with notable impacts on daily traffic and commutes.
While the Konasami low-level crossing on Dreketilailai Road in Labasa is still open, it is currently limited to 4×4 vehicles. Additionally, the Balevuto crossing in Ba has experienced partial washout, limiting access, while the Toge crossing remains fully closed.
The Fiji Roads Authority is closely monitoring these conditions, prioritizing the safety of all residents and travelers and actively working to restore access where possible. Many of these challenges mirror previous flooding events, and the community’s resilience during such times is commendable. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of staying informed about travel conditions, especially given the potential for rapid changes in weather.
While these circumstances are undoubtedly challenging, they also reinforce community strength and cooperation during adverse weather events. Optimism remains regarding the restoration of road conditions as efforts are underway, reminding everyone to navigate responsibly as the situation evolves.
