The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported substantial rainfall across various regions of the country within the last 24 hours, raising concerns about potential flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas. Rainfall data collected from 3 a.m. yesterday to 3 a.m. today highlighted that the heaviest precipitation occurred in the interior and western parts of Viti Levu. Notably, the recorded rainfall totals include Nadarivatu at 248.5 mm, Navala at 223.5 mm, Nanoko at 179.5 mm, Waikubukubu at 163.0 mm, Monasavu at 134.0 mm, and Lautoka at 101.0 mm.

Weather officials attribute the ongoing heavy rainfall to persistent rainbands linked to unsettled weather conditions affecting the Fiji Group. Consequently, the Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning indicating that further rainfall could result in flash flooding and riverine flooding, particularly in low-lying flood-prone regions and along river catchments downstream of impacted interior areas.

The public is urged to stay alert, refrain from traversing flooded roads and river crossings, and continue to heed all official weather advice as the situation develops. Authorities emphasize the importance of caution and preparedness, especially as the country navigates these challenging weather conditions.
